Workshop Terms & Conditions
General terms for quotations, vehicle repairs, collection, payment and workshop services provided by Probert Auto.
Important: These terms are intended to work with applicable South African law, including consumer-protection legislation where it applies. They do not exclude rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
1. Quotations, Estimates & Authorisation
Where a quotation or estimate is provided, Probert Auto will carry out the work authorised by the customer. Additional work that materially changes the approved scope or price will not be undertaken without further customer approval, except where otherwise permitted by law or expressly authorised in advance.
Diagnosis may reveal further faults once components are dismantled or tested. If the scope changes, we will explain the additional work and seek approval before proceeding.
2. Diagnostic Work
Diagnostic work identifies the cause of a fault as far as reasonably possible from the symptoms, testing and information available. A fault code alone is not necessarily proof that a particular component must be replaced. Diagnostic charges, where applicable and lawfully chargeable, cover time and testing and do not guarantee that a fault can always be reproduced immediately.
3. Parts & Materials
Unless otherwise agreed, Probert Auto may source suitable parts and materials for approved work. Availability, supplier delays and discontinued parts can affect completion dates. Any replaced parts that the customer wants returned should be requested before collection, subject to legal, exchange-unit, warranty or disposal requirements.
4. Customer-Supplied Parts
Customer-supplied parts may be fitted at Probert Auto's discretion. The customer is responsible for ensuring that supplied parts are correct and suitable. Probert Auto does not provide its own product warranty on customer-supplied parts. Additional labour or diagnosis caused by an incorrect, defective or unsuitable customer-supplied part may be chargeable, subject to applicable law.
5. Vehicle Condition & Existing Faults
Vehicles may have pre-existing defects, wear, damage, modifications or unrelated faults. Probert Auto is responsible only for work within the authorised scope and for obligations imposed by law. We may record vehicle condition, mileage and visible damage when the vehicle is received.
6. Road Tests & Workshop Movement
The customer authorises reasonable movement of the vehicle within the workshop and, where reasonably necessary for diagnosis or quality checking, a road test by an authorised person. Road tests will be limited to what is reasonably required for the work.
7. Completion Dates & Delays
Any completion date is an estimate unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing. Parts availability, additional faults, supplier delays and other circumstances outside reasonable control may affect completion. We will communicate material delays where practical.
8. Payment & Collection
Unless other arrangements are agreed in writing, payment is due when the work is completed and before the vehicle is released. The customer should inspect the invoice and raise questions promptly.
9. Storage
The customer should collect the vehicle within 7 days after being notified that it is ready. Thereafter, storage may be charged at R300 per day, subject to applicable law and any specific written agreement.
10. Personal Property in Vehicles
Customers should remove valuables and unnecessary personal items before leaving a vehicle. Probert Auto will take reasonable care but cannot accept responsibility beyond what the law requires for items that are not related to the repair or specifically declared when the vehicle is booked in.
11. Warranty
Qualifying repair work is subject to the Probert Auto Repair Warranty and any statutory warranties that apply. The specific quotation, job card and invoice may contain additional information relevant to the repair.
12. Safety-Critical Faults
If a vehicle has a safety-critical defect and the customer declines recommended work, Probert Auto may record that advice. The customer remains responsible for deciding whether the vehicle is safe and lawful to operate, subject to any duties imposed on the workshop by law.
13. Limitation of These Website Terms
These website terms are a general framework and do not replace the specific quotation, authorisation, job card or invoice for a particular vehicle. If there is an inconsistency, applicable law and the specific written agreement for the work will take priority.
14. Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent to sales@probertauto.co.za or discussed with Probert Auto at 064 538 1217.
